V23
V23 is a cork oak (Quercus suber) that sits in a privileged lookout over the Douro River valley in Portugal. Cork oaks are the national tree of Portugal, and are an integral part of this country’s natural and cultural heritage. The bark of this tree (which is cork) was harvested in 2023 – hence the “V23” marking painted on its trunk. The bark will grow back, and will be harvested again in 2032, when the tree will be renamed V32.
