Habitat

from €119.00

Iberian black pigs are native to the oak forests of Spain and Portugal and feed off the acorns that holm and cork oaks spread profusely on the forest floor. It’s these acorns (or “bolotas”) that give such a distinct flavor to the meat of the black pigs. This photograph is part of my series on the Portuguese “montados”, or Mediterranean oak forests. What is fascinating about the trees of the Portuguese “montados” (Mediterranean oak forests) is that each one seems to have a very distinctive personality. Each is an easily recognizable individual.
