Roberto Vámos

Roberto Vámos is a photographer whose images are a celebration of the sublime, in natural and human landscapes alike. Born in Rio de Janeiro — a city with a forest at its heart — he first picked up a camera at the age of eight, and has been photographing for more than thirty years.

He studied Human Biology at Stanford University and Environmental Management at Yale University. After working as a freelance journalist, he has dedicated the past two decades to authorial projects, alongside his work with environmental conservation organizations.

Now based in Portugal, he found in the montados — the country’s ancient cork and holm oak woodlands — a new chapter of his lifelong work with trees, which became the series Kuaray-u. His photographs are held in private collections in South America, the United States and Europe.
