Roberto Vámos

Roberto Vámos is a photographer whose images are a celebration of the sublime, in natural and human landscapes alike. Born in Rio de Janeiro — a city with a forest at its heart — he first picked up a camera at the age of eight, and has been photographing ever since.

He studied Human Biology at Stanford University and Environmental Management at Yale University. After working as a freelance journalist, he has dedicated the past three decades to authorial projects, alongside his work with environmental conservation organizations.

Now based in Portugal, he found in the montados — the country’s ancient cork and holm oak woodlands — a new chapter of his lifelong work with trees, which became the series Kuaray-u. His photographs are held in private collections in South America, the United States and Europe.
